We sampled 331 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity to buyer-intent questions about personal injury lawyers in Southern Orange County, across a study set of 21 firms. Measured September 2026: the most-named firm appeared in 36% of answers, and one firm in the study appeared in none.
What we measured
This page is a dataset of The AI Visibility Index, Vizaeo's public benchmark of how businesses appear in AI answers. The vocabulary and method used here are defined in Metrics and Method: The AI Visibility Standard.
Study set: 21 personal injury firms in Southern Orange County, California (listed below). Questions: three buyer-intent questions of the 'best personal injury lawyer' kind, the way a client asks an assistant. Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. Sample: 331 answers, collected September 2, 2026 on Vizaeo's measurement pipeline. Questions were repeated because single answers vary, and firm mentions were extracted and checked against human-labelled calibration rounds.

What we found
- Attention concentrates. Easton & Easton was named in 120 of 331 answers (36%). A handful of firms collect most mentions; the median firm collects very few.
- Invisibility is silent. Silverthorne Attorneys, a real firm in the study set, was named in 0 of 331 answers. Nothing notifies a firm when this is its number.
- The shortlist is not fixed. 115 distinct firm names appeared across the sampled answers, including firms outside the study set. Assistants name firms they can find and describe.
- Absence is real, not a counting error. When a firm's name was actually in an answer's text, our extraction missed it only 5 times in 331 answers. A zero is a visibility fact, not a measurement gap.

Ask each one five times on each of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, on different days, and tally every firm named. That is roughly the protocol behind this page, scaled down. A full per-firm score for all 21 firms takes a complete report run per firm, and this page does not publish a league table from partial data. It publishes the study design and the findings the data supports, with the method open above.
